Name of the Centre
A well-loved child has many names, as the Swedish saying goes. Our Center for research in physics, astronomy and biotechnology has gone under many names since it was first conceived, and it has sometimes been unclear which the official name really is.
To put all doubts to rest, the Center's name is the following (in Swedish and English):
Stockholms centrum för fysik, astronomi och bioteknik
AlbaNova University Center
[The] Stockholm Center for Physics, Astronomy and Biotechnology
Note that "Universitetscentrum" in the Swedish name is written in upper case, while the subject areas are written in lower case.
The name "AlbaNova" of the Center is inspired by the name of the Albano hill where AlbaNova is located. The "nova" part of the name suggests that we are newcomers to a location where there earlier was a hospital for close to a century.
